We have partnered to denounce the lack of legal regulations protecting animals in air transport. As pets are currently treated as „cargo,“ they are exposed to mistreatment and inadequate travel conditions.

Our key demands:

• Recognize animals as sentient beings, not luggage.
• Establish international regulations for animal transport, as they are not properly covered under the 1999 Montreal Convention.
• Expand airline liability rules so that harm to animals is not treated like lost baggage.
• Abolish arbitrary weight restrictions that prevent pets from flying.
• Enforce mandatory safety protocols to protect animals at all stages of transport, including emergency plans for lost pets at airports.

Given the serious shortcomings in current policies, we call for urgent action to ensure the safety and well-being of animals in air travel.
